Diana created the Skye Squirrel series to help children navigate the world of emotions with confidence and compassion. Her mission is simple: to give kids the words, stories, and tools to understand their feelings—and to help the adults in their lives open up space for meaningful conversations.
I’m a native Tennessean, who moved to Western NC for while but is now back home in East Tennessee. I have written stories and books in one way or another my entire life. However, children’s books have always been my true passion.
I feel that children crave knowledge and that knowledge makes the world less scary. My children’s books are meant to entertain but also provide information for growing minds.
The Skye Squirrel stories are my second children’s book series and was inspired by the white squirrels of Western NC. The stories deal specifically with emotions and are written for children ages 3-8.
I have worked as a substitute teacher for elementary and middle school ages; a juvenile officer with boys ages 13-21; and security for Dollywood, being assigned to assist visiting families with special needs children.
In addition, I have volunteered with Samaritan House, a homeless shelter for families; Appalachian Outreach, a poverty relief organization and ministry; Isaiah 117 House, a safe environment for kids awaiting placement in foster homes; Guardian ad Litem, an advocate for abused and neglected children; special education classes and field trips; and Special Olympics.
My first book series is the Understanding My World collection, which also continues to grow.
“Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and safe in their feelings. Skye Squirrel is my way of helping them—and the grown-ups who love them—start that journey together.”
